I liked this, though it was a lot heavier than I expected. Based on the description, I thought it would be more whimsical, but I still enjoyed it. Lots of nuisance and perspective on being non-binary, trans, and on gender fluidity overall (in a kind and thoughtful way).

Read to kids. Their reviews:

Eleanor (age 8): 5/5. I like how Auklet acts because she’s so cute in the graphic novels and I like hearing more about her. My favorite thing about Turtle is how cute he looks in our WOF stickers!

Max (age 10): 4.5/5. I thought it was good. I like Anemone and Turtle. I think animus battles sound cool. This is one of my favorites in the series. There’s lots of twists and fighting. I like Turtle because he like books and is sort of a stealth wizard in this book.

As always gorgeous art and brutally cutting insight, but sometimes I feel like I have to force myself to read this serious because it is just endlessly gut wrenching and heartbreaking.

I’m just not much of a super hero person, but Rainbow definitely buffers that. She’s my fav across comics and novels for a reason.

Cozy

This is a sweet cozy little book. Just enough plot to be a story but built primarily on whimsy. Then again, imma sucker for bookshops and barbarians.

Some weird stuff in here about the main character’s weight that was supposed to be empowering, I think, but then was sort of problematic, and - well it is what is. Smutty fun that’s borderline ugh.

Folklore is sort of my thing as well as witchcraft stories, so this was bound to please. Great modern-ish illustration style juxtaposed with an ancient story.
