Wild and borderline too ridiculous world building here, but I’m into some inter dimensional plots. Also, don’t hate me, team Jared?

This is a graphic novel created from a stop motion animation and that artistic style is still present. While the subject matter is tragic and difficult, it is still ultimately a story of learning and hope. I definitely appreciated the pieces in the back that gave a more specific history. There was also a few two page spreads with the moon cycles that were just breathtaking artistically.

Sometimes, when the characters are good enough, stories have the luxury of meandering around without any meaningful conflict for 200+ pages. This is one of those. The first half of this book is purely scene-building and I ate up every drop. Then you have your major conflict but the following 200 pages are essentially character development, in which the only notable conflict is that WWII is one of the partial backdrops. Yet, somehow, I want to meet Vivian and listen to her for hours. This worked for me, despite its lingering pace. Maybe it’s because she never went more than a page without mentioning fabric, cocktails, or sex?

3.5 | I love a good mystery and a good detective - I enjoyed this and I adore the setting, but it didn’t quite hit. Although after a little investigating it sounds like this isn’t a fan favorite place to start with Penny’s 3 Pines mysteries. I’ll give another one a go.

Eleanor’s review: my favorite part was when Tsunami was Clever and tricked the queen to keep her friend safe. My favorite character is Glory - she’s really really really like me.

Did this one is an audiobook and really enjoyed it - there were some fun twist and turns although largely some of the outcome was predictable. I particularly like Edwina and Ian and they were fun to follow.

Did this as an audiobook during a nine hour drive to Colorado. This author is just so good and I’ve enjoyed so many of her books. Always the right mix of mysticism and reality and romance but with substantive and meaningful character development. This one particularly had a mythology vibe that I really enjoyed.
