I did not set out to read this book in one sitting, but here we are at 1am. Wow. This novel is an allegory meets tragedy meets mythology meets war time story, all of which is written in near poetic rhythm. The author depicts almost manic moments of violence and grief with such gentle delivery I never felt as though I was a reading a “war” novel. I was left with a calm, quiet, thoughtful sadness but also very content and not depressed. The magical or mythical elements are treated with extreme care and interest. Highly recommended.

Audio book on a family road trip! Didn’t realize the “unstoppable” series was separate from the original series, so the backstory was a little overwhelming but we quickly got hooked. Great for my third grader!

Reichel’s career is, obviously, next level so to call her memoirs relatable feels ridiculous - and to be clear there’s very few parts of her life I can directly relate to - but her writing shines through that disconnect. She’s a person who loves food, creativity, comfort, and isn’t perfect. It’s like talking to a close friend who has an extraordinary life. Loved this account of Gourmet and publishing life in New York in the 90-00s.

Another bed time read aloud book down. This one was much harder to read out loud - language was more complex and wordy. Also stops for feminist corrections on gross comments/phrasing, but overall still fun to read this series to my oldest.

I really enjoyed this audio book. Very complex plot that was a bit shaky but the analogies the author was hinting at were interesting and compelling.
