My initial issue with this book was that it was so unbelievably reminiscent of Game of Thrones, but upon further listen there’s a few distinctions. Also so many books in this type of fantasy genre came before Game of Thrones with also very similar storylines that it’s hard to use that as a criticism. Knight, dragons, awful masochistic princes, and little girls striving to join secret orders. All there, all still fun to escape too.

Really enjoy these characters and this plot - but it's just too damn bleak for the current world events. Pausing on this series. Also, I feel like her "gifts" are too sporadic and unequally used and it's a confusing plot device.

I zoomed through these 4 books. There are 3 prequels the author followed up with, but 1-4 wrap up the key story. The main characters are a bit predictable but are fun, charming, and interesting. It’s typically urban fantasy but with some twists. I would’ve loved to get to know a few of the side characters better too.

Let’s be honest, it would be nearly be impossible to have a Rainbow and Faith combo that doesn’t delight me. While it is entirely predictable (which I contend is just fine sometimes), this is such a sweet and charming little journey. knowing the pumpkin patch that inspired this fantasy-one only makes me more affectionate towards the book. Also seeing characters that are diverse throughout the book (in terms of race, body size, and sexual orientation) without it being the major point of the plot makes me feel like the kids are gonna be all right - love it.
