to be honest, this book was just another deeply mediocre, forgettable book in the category of YA novels that were a thing when I was in middle school.

This book was strangely unfulfilling. I know McNamara died before the Golden State Killer was apprehended, but I expected more of an epilogue talking about who he was and how he was caught. Leaving it with just "oh, well, we found him" after such exhaustive research from McNamara felt almost disrespectful to her, especially since the book ends with every cop who was a part of catching him denying that McNamara or the book assisted in the investigation in any way.
