this series continues to be incredible

Friends, I was warned. I knew this book was a tear-jerker. I knew.

So I picked this up because I love retellings, and Greek mythology, and books that make me feel things. And boy did this book make me feel things.

This was kind of a rough weekend for me, feelings-wise, since I watched Avengers: Endgame twice (and cried a river both times) and just now finished this book. And cried more than both movie viewings combined. Madeline Miller has crafted a masterpiece and I am lucky to have the privilege to have experienced it.

I am obsessed

i'm still crying

REREAD ON 11/10/19: I still have no idea how to review this book. I found this to be true for Daisy Jones, too, but Reid really knows how to write characters who are at once hate-able and lovable (but in very different ways). This book never slows down or takes a break. It is always engrossing. The characters feel like real people, never like cardboard cutouts. I can see how this book might not work for people, but the reread just makes me want to move it further up on my favorites list.

EDIT 2/17/22: the way I saw one edit on TikTok and was thrown so bodily back to the nostalgia of this series that I had to reread it instantly? also uh wow this book is so good?

reread: 3/11/19

Did I just reread a book I haven't touched since 2012? Yes. Have I raised my rating to 5 stars? Also yes because friends, The Hunger Games is somehow better than I remember it. I mean, wow. Definitely worthy of all that hype all those years ago. Middle school me didn't know how good she had it.

I got this cute new edition while on Prince Edward Island (look at the illustrations of the whole series aren’t they adorable) and boy there’s just something about reading Anne on the north shore of PEI just looking at the exact vistas being described.

My mother and I have always loved these books so of course, a grand five stars for the nostalgia, the wit, and the heart.

yeah uh...

this was amazing. genuinely just so warm and fun and adorable. it gave my heart palpitations (the good kind when you read something that's just too soft for words) just about every single page.
