This book just really bothered me.

The main character was bi, but never corrected anyone because "it was a shitty denial to shove in your boyfriend's face" and he didn't want to be "clinging to his heterosexuality" which both just made me so upset. Being bi isn't "actually gay but hanging on to straightness" and it's also not a slap in the face to your gay same-sex partner to identify as bi. YIKES

There were slurs aplenty from both villains and friends, which, like. Why? Can we not?

That main villain I just mentioned is constantly harassing the main character and spewing slurs, but, of course, the second book in this series is about him falling in love with another man. That "homophobic people are just secretly queer" trope is awful and I hate it and the fact that this author is playing into it.

I don't know how this author identifies but this just felt deeply fetishy and gross.
