» PLOT «
The book is a satire of a pretentious ladies lunch and literature group set in the early 1900's. The 6 ladies are reminiscent of an elite high school clique where there is heavy competition and an odd man out. The story focuses on the visit of a famous guest author, that doesn't turn out quite as planned. The only topic presented that the guest will discuss is Xingu. The ladies all state that they have just studied it ... but have they and do they even know what it is?

this was really fun.

It’s 1989 in New York City, and for three teens, the world is changing.

i was pleasantly surprised, the storyline is okay, but the characters in them are great.

» READABILITY «
easy read

» CHARACTERS «
the characters and the insights we get into Reza's, Judy's, and Art's lives are fantastic. I loved reading their POVs and seeing their thoughts and ideas.

» WRITING «
the POVs and the characters were very well written. I was pleasantly surprised, and now remember why i love romances so much.

» OVERALL «
better than i expected, especially since i didn't expect much.

After losing spectacularly to her ex-girlfriend in their first game since their break up, Scottie Zajac gets into a fender bender with the worst possible person: her nemesis, the incredibly beautiful and incredibly mean Irene Abraham. Things only get worse when their nosey, do-gooder moms get involved and the girls are forced to carpool together until Irene’s car gets out of the shop.

when i started to realize this was an enemies to lovers, :)

» READABILITY «
not bad, fast

» PLOT «
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Jeremiah and Conrad have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

The idea and guts of this book seem good in retrospect, but considering my immediate reaction was a 2 or 3 star, I just don't think the execution was that good. I really wanted to like this book and the characters and romance. There was more between Jeremiah and Belly than anything between Conrad and Belly. I am all for romances between two people who have no chance, but this just was not it.

The fact that there was barely anything between the main couple just make this book not as good as it should've been. Not to mention the fact that there are sequels, possibly indicating a turnaround regarding the happyish ending. After being burned by Queen of Babble's sequels ruining the first book, I can't tell whether I should be more disappointed more excited.

I am a huge fan of romance. It is undoubtedly my favorite genre. I only need the smallest hint of romance to be invested, and this GAVE ME NOTHING.

» READABILITY «
Nice and short, not a hard read

» CHARACTERS «
like I said above, I just got nothing from anyone. They just needed more development and character.

» WRITING «
The writing is mediocre at best, but I noticed that some of the language is a bit dated and can be offensive.

» OVERALL «
Considering they are filming an adaptation, I might continue the series anyways lol.

edit: after seeing a tiktok, i decided to spoil the book for myself, so i went to read the review of book 3. to say the least, i am extremely disappointed and devastated. i didn't like this book, but the fact that i hate the ending even more and i'll have too see this terrible series be adapted makes me want to cry.

The Anthropocene is the current geological age, in which human activity has profoundly shaped the planet and its biodiversity. In this remarkable symphony of essays adapted and expanded from his ground-breaking, critically acclaimed podcast, John Green reviews different facets of the human-centered planet - from the QWERTY keyboard and Halley's Comet to Penguins of Madagascar - on a five-star scale.

*This is a work of nonfiction, so a default rating of 3 stars was given.

» PLOT «
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds, and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

some of the plot doesn't make sense, like the fact that mia had the stupidest motive. like how does
attacking the sister of the person she hates help her at all? especially since NOBODY KNEW ABOUT THEM.

» READABILITY «
the audiobook makes lissa and mia seem/sound like babies and that annoyed the hell out of me.

» CHARACTERS «
the mc is so annoying, she thinks she's so smart and better than everyone else. she thinks she's super important and the shit. especially when she
went off on Christian when SHE didn't like him, so that he wouldn't talk to lissa *eyeroll*

» WRITING «
this was rough

this was lame.

i was expected a guilty pleasure, YA, supernatural romance, and i just got disappointment. :/
