- the book is very unrealistic regarding to how humans would interact and how their laws work (just because the book has ghosts doesn't mean that everything else should also be unrealistic)
- main villain is like a cartoon villain
- the fact that the villain offered to

take their land and make the main character and her family into indentured servants

- the fact that the father was gonna allow the point above to occur
- nearly all of the laundromat's customers treat the main character (who is a child) like shit, even though they know that her mother just died
- main character is bland and uninteresting, not just because she is disinterested. this is more excusable than the other dislikes, but still.

this book does not have quotation marks around the speech and dialogue portions. this is a fact that i wouldn't have known about had it not been for the questions section on Goodreads. while i mainly listened to this book via an audiobook, i did take some time to read the book physically as well, and i'm not that big of a fan of it. i'm the type of person who rereads sections of book to see if some thing was actually said or not, so this really can be confusing if you're not used to it. if you want to read this book and get confused by the lack of quotation marks, listen to the audiobook.

honestly disappointed, i thought this would be much better considering the rave it gets. don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad book and there were some cute moments, it's just not as good as everyone says it is.
