This is one of those books I think everyone should read. Nothing has reshaped my idea of the world like this book has. Wall Kimmerer explores the idea that though we can't ignore or erase the damage done by colonization, we can learn not only how to give reparations, but to become indigenous to a place. To learn how to work with the land rather than against it. 

Priest's prose really shows through even in the translation. The way they describe certain, subtle things always sticks with me. The characters and their interactions are the best part of this book. The old man flirting and foolishness is delightful of course, but the other characters are wonderful as well. The plot can get a bit confusing at times, hence why this isn't rated higher. I still loved it though!

This world is amazing. I could spend all day in it. The characters are dynamic and naturally funny. I can't wait to read the next two. I also love to contemplate the logistics of creature medicine, so thank you Vivian. 

I think what takes it down for me is that sometimes the mood doesn't match the stakes, if that makes sense? Sometimes something would happen and the character would be horrified and I'd be like...well I mean yes it is gruesome but in this world setting aren't you used to gruesome or bizarre shit? But ah, I get that it's meant to be mostly lighthearted. The reactions just sometimes feel like an overreaction to me. All in all a fun read!

SICK AND TWISTED!! THAT REVEAL AT THE END IS SICK AND TWISTED!!!!!

As many have said, this book is palpably full of rage and if there's one think I love, it's a woman who is at her fucking limit. Sci Fi has to really intrigue me to read and I think they did a good job.

I will say the piloting system confused me a bit but that may moreso be my dumb brain. Give me a complex hard magic system? Hell yeah. Complex futuristic tech system? Brain explode. 

The historical aspects could be a bit strange as well as there's no...evolution of them beyond what they were when they were originally practiced if that makes sense?

I wish they'd indulged in the poly relationship a bit more. It felt a bit rushed and at times disingenuous, but I appreciate it being there at all.
