I'd actually say that this book felt more like women's fiction than romance, but I still really enjoyed it. The story focuses a lot on Toni and her life and struggles. We do get a glimpse into Sebastian's life as a way to understand why the two of them had to spend time apart. I loved the characters and the side characters were fun, as well. This was my first book by Xio Axelrod, and I'll definitely be back for more.

Spice content: Two relatively shorter spicy scenes. Plenty of heat and descriptors to keep it locked into a not clean romance but also isn't overly dirty.

I would say this book is a read beginner romance read if you're not sure if romance is for you, but us seasoned folks can also very much enjoy it.

There was a lot that I enjoyed about this book, but the final 1/3 does hinge on a secret and I know that's not always everyone's cup of tea. Sometimes it feels a bit dated and annoying to read that (JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER) so that's why I'm giving this 3.5 stars. I liked the writing style and the characters were fun to read. This was listed as "erotica" but I would not classify this book that way at all. Yes, there are spicy scenes but there is far too much plot and character development and nowhere near enough dirty stuff to consider this erotica.

I had never heard of Zoey Castile before, but I'm happy she is now on my radar.

Oh, I loved this. A sweet and adorable friends to lovers slow burn with a hint of spice. One character (Ray) is quite golden retriever and the other (Simone) is a bit of an ice queen. Just all of the best tropes wrapped up in a cute bundle with woke energy.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. I AM OBSESSED WITH THEO. I think I might faint while listening to their first time.

I legitimately took a break from reading to kick my feet and squeal. This book made me so freaking happy. It's so cute and so hot and so worth the read.

I honestly didn't read any reviews and had no idea what this was going to be about. It is mainly from the MMC perspective and his struggles with Seasonal Affective Disorder and depression. Despite that, it doesn't get overly heavy.

DID NOT FINISH

I DNF'ed this one. I looked at the book and was like "hey, that'll be fun for Halloween". It was, in fact, not fun.

This book just didn't do it for me. It took me days to read because I just kept falling asleep. I know that I struggle to read and connect in third person but this felt like even more than that. I just didn't connect with anyone (and honestly I didn't even like anyone that much). The side characters and stories felt disconnected and pointless and I just didn't really believe them.

I can feel the weight of this book sitting in my chest. It feels like an open wound that has begun to heal from the beauty and rawness of this book. I honestly didn't know what to think when the book began but this book feels like life. As our main character says its "messy and alive." This is truly beautiful.

“You were like light. I couldn’t help but to turn my face to you if I wanted to keep living.”

"We're doing this?"
"What...setting our lives on fire? Sounds fantastic."
"I'll burn with you."

Okay, I loved this. I legit turned up the speed on the audiobook because I couldn't listen fast enough and I needed to make sure I finished the book before the workday was over! I had originally started listening to it on Spotify and then my hours ran out and I went and used up an audible credit to get it because the idea of waiting 16 days to listen to the rest of it was unconscionable.

My one heads up is that the book description described this as "steamy" and as a person who reads deranged filth...this wasn't steamy. But other than that... go read it.

Honestly, the way Booktok talked about this book I thought it was going to be even spicier than it is. It was a fun read with all the different k!nks to read about, and I'll absolutely keep reading the series, but I just wasn't shout from the rooftops obsessed with this one.
