I will absolutely keep reading these books. I loved the steam and was blown away at how much I loved a romance novel with a focus on the men. The writing did feel a little less polished and meaty (I literally can't think of another way to explain it right now), but the premise and storylines easily sucked me in and has me wanting to come back for more.

This was cute and spicy. However, the cute felt like the main focus and so when the spicy started to happen I was honestly taken aback by it. I expected it to lean more towards closed door, but Gil was a dirty talker and it felt out of place. And this is coming from a person who freaking loves the spice and the dirty talk. It just felt like they didn't work together somehow.
So I marked this as a 4-star read immediately after finishing it, but I also semi-forgot most of the book now a week later as I'm trying to write a review. Clearly I liked it in the moment, though?
The idea of the plot sounded really interesting, but I kinda hated these characters. Also, I got lost along the way with all the dream vs reality stuff, and the two side plots we not well developed. I cared so little about these people that I'm pretty sure I got lost because my mind wandered so much while listening to it. So then I sped it up so I could finish it and make it count towards my reading goal, but... meh.
With the way the book starts, I wasn't anticipating a slow burn. It was a fun read, but I did find it to be a bit immature and campy.
This book was a god damn delight. It has When Harry Met Sally vibes, and I will always be on board for that.
I know that the whole point of this book was how awful they are to each other in the beginning, but lord it was painful for me. I was so frustrated with them that by the time they got their HEA I didn't feel as happy and swoony as I normally do, because I didn't like them. Clearly, Sarah Hogle did her job well with this book, but my emotional state was not here for it.
Based on sheer nostalgia and absolute fucking obsession with When Harry Met Sally, I found this book delightful. While there are tons of delightful nods to the movie, it is still its own thing entirely and I'm grateful for that.
I did see a Tiktok about the book mentioning the spiciness, but as an avid smut reader, I'd like to note that this book is a slow-burn with (I think) one spicy scene. This book is mostly tension, heart palpitations, and witty banter -- just like the movie. I do not find this to be a fault in anyway, but I do know us smutty readers like to know what we're getting into.
Side note: The narrator, Kristen DiMercurio, is heading towards my favorites list these days. She's wonderful and you can also catch her in Delilah Green Doesn't Care which you should also read immediately. After this book, of course.
