To be honest, I started this book after watching the first movie. I really enjoyed the voice of Lara Jean and the character of Kitty but overall the story is alright.

I don’t know what it is about this series that makes it so easy to digest but it gives me nostalgia for high school and more easy times with family.

A sprawling historical move, Pachinko explores the rich and often underexposed history of ethnic Koreans in Japan. With all the spirals of a good Victorian gothic and the subtle intricate details of East Asian literature, the book is a sublime read.

Like the feather that adorns the cover of this book, Orange made a textured novel with lots of different perspectives at what it means to be a Native in America today. The interwoven, heartbreaking vignettes draw closer and closer to the big PowWow and the heart of the novel. The complexity of each character challenges the stereotypes about Native culture and introduces the longstanding history of
Urban Indians.

I loved this book because it works hard to center Blackness. It forces you to examine the ways that although you think you might have confronted racism, you might not have. And the way the author forthrightly uses religion, radical politics and race is authentic and unmarred by any attempts to pacify her readers. Should be mandatory reading for all the white people who think they know social justice.
