Unapologetic and beautifully written, Miller’s voice is a siren for Jamaica.
Such creative and splendid writing, memorable characters and sentimental plot line.
Multidimensional and humane, this book carves out overlooked niches of humanity and puts them under a magnifying glass, with interesting somewhat mixed results. At times, it felt more like a writing exercise than a finished product, a series of rudimentary sketches. At the heart, though, is a stirring story about intergenerational mother-daughter relationships which saves the other, more banal stories.
What a thrilling read from start to end. It’s one thing to read about the human psyche but it’s another to be placed inside, completely removed from the human world. It’s like triple distilled vodka, something crystal clear that dogs up your mind immediately. What a novel
