For the most part, I loved the vibes of this book. Part horror, part thriller, part mystery, part mythology, more than a dash of Lovecraft.

Former teen detectives Andy, Kerri, Nate, and the every trusty sleuths canine Tim are haunted by their last case. It has been following them like a shadow through to their adulthood. Andy decides it’s time to face the past because the case that haunts them isn’t over yet.

Overall I’d say this book was ok. I really, really liked it. Until I didn’t. I thought the character development was good. There were just enough twists, turns, feints, and surprises to keep you engaged. And I always love the inclusion of myths and legends.
My issue came with the fight scenes. Literally page after page one giant run on sentence. I had to read, reread, and then read them again a third time to process what was happening. There were no breaks, no transitions. Honestly, it would have been better to have an AI generated reenactment of the scenes embedded in a QR code.
I found them so hard to follow that I came close to putting the book down and not picking it back up.

But other than that, I thought this was a great blend of Scooby Doo and Stranger Things.

Who doesn’t remember the precocious little Fern and the runt of the litter that she saved, Wilbur. Not to mention the spider with a heart of gold, Charlotte.
I loved the 1970s version of this movie. Definitely used to watch it on repeat. And listen to the book over and over again as I went to bed. One of my childhood favorites. Although I’m not sure hearing about an extremely intelligent spider helped with my dislike of them at that age
