Excluding the bizarrely abrupt ending makes the book a lot better. There were so many possibilities left open before the final chapter just sky-dives as quickly as possible to the conclusion with no regard to any of the characters, their motivations, values or anything.
It's as if Austen had a point to prove about morality and proper behaviour that she was so set on showing that she forced it in the most heavy-handed manner all in the last few pages. It feels so disconnected from what everything else had been building up to.
