In Search of One Last Song: Britain's disappearing birds and the people trying to save them

Should be called “in defence of grouse/pheasant shooting”.
Misleading title. Very disappointed. Read Guy Shrubsoles Lie of the Land instead.

I can already tell this isn’t a book for me. The writing just screams pretentious male ego to me (intentional or not, it’s not what I like to read). I already hate Campbell. So glad I borrows this from the library and didn’t buy it.
Not going to read but own on kobo so marking as DNF - author is a TERF and this is white feminism. Not going to even bother reading it.
In 25% I didn’t laugh once at this “bitterly comic” book. I like unlikeable narrators but they have to be at least interesting.
Too much like homework
Overly philosophical
No feel for the characters

Too dry. Too many references to Christianity and artists and poets that I have no context for.
The main character was far too autobiographical and I couldn’t get past that. The supporting characters were 2 dimensional and bland. Maybe a harsh judgement only 30 pages in but it’s been 3 weeks and I just don’t want to pick it up.
Ah the premise of this was so promising, but i really struggled with these retellings. They felt a little juvenile for my tastes. Probably more suited to people who love YA.
