I don’t think I’ve ever actually read about a “pray away the gay” camp experience, though of course I knew they existed. In any case, this book manages to somehow combine the essences of summer camp, adolescence, homophobia, and faith in a story that is serious but not too dark. The characters are relatable, if not super memorable — and, perhaps more importantly, demonstrate a variety of viewpoints and backgrounds. The ending felt a little rushed, but it was believable.
