The dual POV was actually quite annoying, especially in the beginning before stuff started actually happening. Uncompelling characters, stagnant plot, mediocre storytelling.
I thought it was purely fictional until Mozart showed up - but Anna was a fairly fleshed-out character, even if I disliked her at times. Decent plot, though all the pining and grieving gets a little grating.
They grew on me as their voices became more distinct. At some points I really couldn't stand Renee's idiocy, and I simply hated Julian. But overall, a nice tale of love, loss, and female friendship.
It was fairly typical for its genre, save for the narrative style - movie script and second person! - and the general tone of the romance, which was done fairly well, from the "friendzone" (for lack of a better term) to getting together.
In this installment, Lucy comes off as a snobby, entitled brat - a key example of the sequel not living up to the original, though it did maintain some of the things I loved about the established 'verse.
Honestly, all of the characters really annoyed me. Marley's side of the story really lost its appeal after she met up with B, and the Dr. Michael thing was just weird.
This book started off sad but otherwise typical, then it got twisted and creepy. The suspense wasn't done too badly, and once the action got rolling it was pretty dang good.
The idea wasn't at all original, and it was hard to sympathize with the protagonista so deeply in denial. Part/book 2 was much better; David was great, not special but not awful.
Overall an engaging read. Shana was definitely a vivid, likable protagonista and Quattro a very worthy love interest. Grace and Stesha were inspiring. The "blind spot" motif was creatively interpreted in various ways, keeping it fresh but consistent.
Stunning unreliable-narrator twist: not sure that's how it should be done, but it was certainly effective. Couldn't help liking and trusting Jake straight off. Didn't foresee the Z twist.
