Considering the premise, this book had so much potential and yet it falls so, so short. For too much of the book I'm left wondering whether I even still ship Anne and Gilbert, because they have so few meaningful interactions in this book despite being in their literal honeymoon period. I do like the new characters we meet, but I still really, really miss the original gang.
Truthfully I don't love the epistolary format, though I suppose there isn't inherently a huge difference between Anne's long rambly letters and her long rambly monologues in the previous books; probably you could chalk up the major changes to Anne growing up, but it's kind of a disappointing shift. Maybe it's also that most of our beloved familiar cast is off-page, living their own lives which we barely get to see?
While I still enjoyed this one, more than not, there's definitely a clear disconnect from the previous books in the series.

Look, I just adore the wholesome energy of the Blythe kids. This feels like a sort-of return to the childhood misadventures I loved about the first two Anne books, though Anne herself (and Gilbert) are more supporting, or even cameo, than main characters here.
