This was the right book for me at the right time. The story is vast, taking place during a war, but it still felt like a intimate character study. I got way too invested, but I just couldn't put the book down

I wish I had gotten the audiobook instead of reading it physically. It becomes a bit monotonous, and I  think Wong's voice would've helped. My favorite parts were her writing about her relationship with her mother, you could so easily feel her frustrations through the text.

I prefered the first half over the second half which I felt dragged for a while. The perspective of the book wasn't really what I expected, but I enjoyed Krakauer's writing style and the narration of the audiobook was great too!

The story is really fascinating, but the writing style couldn't hold my attention. Part 2 was better, but by then I felt I had skimmed so much of part 1 that I was no longer keeping up with the information. I think I'll try it again someday in audio form

There parts of the story that focuses on the Garden and Dickon, I though were really sweet and great. But the first third is just full of so much racism, both in amount and degree, that I considered dnf'ing
