The whole book just felt a bit flat to me. 
Enjoyable, but lacking in the scary department 

I have very mixed feelings about this book. I liked the premise, but the  execution felt a bit lacking to me

“Hold on, Seaweed Brain.” It was Annabeth’s voice, much clearer now. “You’re not getting away from me that easily.”

Part of me was impressed with her for standing up like that. But part of me thought her pride was going to get us killed.

Her eyes were puffy from crying, but she managed to say, “He was probably the bravest friend I’ve ever had. He …” Then she saw me. Her face went blood red. “He’s right there!”

“This might be it,” she said.
“Could be.”
“Nice fighting with you, Seaweed Brain.”
“Ditto.”

Nico hesitated. “I don’t play that game anymore. It’s for kids.”
“It’s got four thousand attack power,” I coaxed.
“Five thousand,” Nico corrected. “But only if your opponent attacks first.”
I smiled. “Maybe it’s okay to still be a kid once in a while.”

I’m honestly just not vibing with the characters or the plot 

I read these books back in like, 2017 and enjoyed them a lot. 
Decided to read them again because of the tv show coming out in a couple days, I’m no longer a year older than Percy, but 7 lmao. 
I still adore the book though, it’s even better than I remember it
