I really enjoyed this. It reminded me a lot of Divergent, but it was different enough and well written enough to be well worth reading. I'm definitely going to read the rest!

3.5 stars. I'm writing this after reading books 2 and 3 and they definitely get better and better. This one was OK - if you're not too sure, keep reading!

If you like YA fantasy you should read this. It's fast-paced, realistic in its emotions and feelings, and interesting in its mix of military, historical, and fantastical.

If you liked Hunger Games, you'll almost certainly like it. If you liked the Mortal Instruments series, this is better so far (less teenage angst and more genuine).

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series

Bit disappointed with this - it just didn't grab me. Nothing really wrong with it - I quite liked the characters and the storyline was OK - it just didn't seem anything special.
