I'm so glad I finally read this. Much better than the previous one in the series. I was getting very tired of Clary and Jace and all their teen angst, but they seem to have got over themselves and this was good.
I have to say, the first three books in the series are good, and I loved the Infernal Devices series, but books 4 and 5 needed a bit of a serious re-write. 4.5 stars

Someone recommended this to me, and I'm glad they did, as I read it in just over a day. A lot of people have compared these books to Stephen King, and I can see why. The horror remains with you. I don't usually read this type of horror, and I generally avoid Stephen King as I find him far too good at freaking me out, but this was horror without giving me nightmares for weeks. There are some very nasty bits though, and it's definitely going to stay in my thoughts for a while.

It's hard to know what to tag this as. A lot of people have tagged it as dystopia, but I've actually gone for post-apocalyptic too. There hasn't actually been an apocalypse, but neither is there a dystopian society. And the way the kids are thrown into chaos by a sudden event feels apocalyptic to me. Whatever, it's a gripping read and I'm definitely going to read the next one.

Not the best Nora Roberts I've read. I didn't like Cliff much and the romance was too fast to be interesting. There's not a lot to this book at all actually.

Hmm. Little bits of this were excellent but a lot of it just seemed dull, muddled, and disjointed. It didn't do much at all for me until about a third of the way through, and I struggled to finish it. It's definitely not in the same league as To Kill a Mockingbird. It read like a draft of an unfinished book that needs a lot of work, which is basically what it is as far as I can gather.
