This was so good, I read it in one sitting. Short, sweet and a very moving story. 4.5 stars

This was a 2.5 star book, but irritating enough to be more 2 stars than 3. And it was *really* irritating, with cheesy dialogue, laughable sex scenes, and lots of Sookie Stackhouse-style dilemmas about work, clothes, make-up and laundry. Ellie was pathetic and felt very unreal, and I just didn't like Collin. Not a nice guy at all.

The basic idea was good, but I skimmed the last 50 pages or so because I was getting very bored with the way the book was written, and I won't be bothering with the rest of the series.

A great debut novel - a cross between Anne McCaffrey and Bernard Cornwell. The Napoleonic wars with dragons. But not a boring war book by any means. In fact, it was rather clever with a very likeable main character. Generally excellently written and a little different to the usual historical fiction and dragon-rider fare. I want a dragon like Temeraire! :)
