For a while I thought this would be a five star read - I love the structure of the book. It's easy to read quickly (I listened to the audiobook, and both narrators are fantastic), and I loved the epistolary style. In the epilogue, the characters become who you thought they'd be, but the real ending of the book was so disappointing to me.

Ugh, I'm so conflicted about this book. There were some things I really loved, but there was a lot I really disliked. I hate when a character does something they clearly wouldn't or the book seems to forget things we know about them (ex: "she didn't know if you could die from inhaling bad smells" - about the main character who has been shown to be a brilliant doctor; MC constantly being shocked that her gay BFF, who is also a doctor, has any grasp of the concept of using Latin phrases.) There's one moment where the MC gets smacked down a bit for her infantilization of the BFF, which she massively needed and deserved, but it didn't feel like she really learned from it. Also holy genre changes, Batman - a significant part of this book is centered around an almost completely tangential romance plot. There's also a heavy, heavy dose of "not all church people," which I found eyeroll-inducing.
