I went into this book not really knowing anything about Malcolm X so I learned A LOT! I did appreciate the detail, but I don't think this was the best choice for audio. It was hard to keep track of everyone. The appendix at the end — essentially a Q&A with Malcolm X — was super helpful and a great summary of the activist's viewpoint.

An engaging read, giving great insight into what goes on in a therapist's room, especially if you've never had therapy yourself. I enjoyed the two perspectives of therapy wrapped up into one and there were informative tidbits in here too. I think it was slightly on the "too long" side. Could have been trimmed down!

A great second instalment! I'm so eager to see how this all wraps up!

Some of the pacing felt off and I got a little confused with some facets of it, but soo invested!!

I really struggled with what to rate this book! It's 'a lot' for a variety of reasons. Given I typically avoid the blurb and reviews of books I'm going to read, I had zero clue where it was going so people who've read this book will know why the opening chapters took me by surprise! I wasn't sure how I felt about the content to start but I was definitely intrigued.

Ultimately, I think I needed more from this book: a little more plot, a little more character development, a little more explanation around certain actions, a little more of a why... Without this, especially without feeling super invested in the characters and their relationships, I felt like I was listening to certain things, that were meant to shock, surprise, or unsettle me, for the sake of it?

I can see why some love this book and I can see why some hate it. I think it had all of the ingredients to be a read that I personally found brilliant, but I'm not convinced by how Melissa Broder mixed them all up!

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in to this one having not read the blurb and I was captivated by the concept and story.

Some parts felt a little slow or repetitive and some parts didn’t seem to add up quite so well, but I think it was really well written and certainly had some of an emotional impact on me.

I really loved the images incorporated in my edition!

This book is perfect for audio! This is coming from somebody who's fairly new to audiobooks and didn't think they were for me. If you love true crime, podcasts, documentaries, etc., and want to read this book, you'd be doing yourself a disservice not to listen to it if you have the option to! For one, there's a full cast consisting of fourteen narrators.

That being said, given the awesome setup/structure, the quality of the story just didn't match. It ended up feeling bland and the characters themselves felt mostly as if they were walking clichés/stereotypes. I was left feeling a little like: What was the point of this story being told? What was I meant to take away from it?

Still, it sustained my interest. That, combined with the stellar audiobook concept, wins the book points!

A solid listen for sure! My interest was pretty much sustained the whole way through. Ultimately, it all got a little messy and confusing, at least for me, and I was a left with a handful of: "Wait, so what happened here?" questions.

This was such a rich, complex, powerful concept to tackle in a book this short but on the whole it worked really well! I really appreciated this unique perspective. Some parts of the narration, especially with respect to pacing, felt off though! Ultimately, I wanted a little more from it. Perhaps it wouldn't have hurt if it was a tad longer.

I've finally read some Kristin Hannah! I really liked this book! From the opening pages, I was sucked in and by the end the book had made me feel a whole range of emotions. However, there was something off with the writing — I think it felt a little flat and stilted for most of it — and some of the plot points felt a tad too contrived or convenient! But, it's an almost 500-page book, I don't recall being bored, and some things really did grab me emotionally, so that counts for a lot!

This was a fun collection of poems to work through. I enjoyed how Leena used humour to grapple with serious topics and some of the poems felt as if you were reading a note from an encouraging, comforting friend.

My favourite is Lesser-Known Love Languages, and this is a great collection for those who are looking to dip their toe into poetry or have found other collections not the most accessible!
