This book had me intrigued the whole way. I appreciated the detailed behind-the-scenes look at developing and navigating an open marriage, something that isn't relatable to my own life at all. There were some moments — like a realisation or perspective shift — that had me nodding my head, thinking about things in a different way, and other moments that had me sceptical, and I love that the book confronted me with that. There were parts that were frustrating and felt repetitive, but I can't really dock points from Deepa for that since this was her real-life experience!

I really enjoyed this! I had zero clue what this was about going into it. I've just set myself a challenge to read every single book that falls under "Abbie's current fave" on the StoryGraph team page. This book was so fun, funny, sharp, and clever. It did start to drag a bit for me towards the latter quarter, but still great overall!

A solid ending to the trilogy! It does drag at times, especially in the middle, but I loved the evolution of the story and the characters and I also appreciated the nuance and philosophy around topics like war.
Looking forward to checking out the prequels now!

I struggled to rate this one as I could tell it was high-quality poetry but a fair few went right over my head, but there is some real powerful stuff in here and some real moments that give you pause.

A solid sequel. It started to lose a little bit of steam for me towards the end, but still enjoyable! Very curious to finally see how this trilogy ends!

I loved the way this was written, like Gary was sitting opposite you having a chat. I bet the audio, which he narrates, is great. It was giving a modern-day Liar's Poker, which is right up my alley. Very readable and engaging, and took me back to when I used to be in that world. It did lose a little steam towards the end, and there was one final part that felt disappointing to the reader who had come on a long journey with Gary (though sounds like Gary's hands were tied??) — and the Postscript certainly helped alleviate the sting — but I was overall thoroughly entertained so the book wins points for that. Was also hoping for a little bit more on Gary's journey to where he is today as an inequality economist but hey ho. Maybe that would have made the book too long!

A beautifully written book! I love when the writing is accessible and "no-frills" and yet so evocative. Certain parts of the book didn't have the emotional impact I was expecting, given my feelings when I started, but maybe that was down to me hurrying to finish it for movie night with my sister? Unclear! Given the journey I was taken on here, I can't get over how short this book is!
Update: If you can watch the movie not long after - I watched it that very night on the same day I finished it - it really adds to the whole experience of this work!

What a cracking finale to this trilogy! How a slow-paced book, where you know the overall ending, can get you so tense! The writing was impeccable. A few parts flew over my head — both the writing and plot/history points — but that's expected with these. I even got a lil' emotional towards the end!

Meh, was hoping for more from this book. Thought it'd be more informative, but instead it was more on the humour side of things. And it wasn't that funny. You could also feel how dated it was too! Still, I enjoyed the format and was reminded of some classic Economics concepts.

A reread after 12-15 years and it was a lot of fun. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head. I'm excited to finally read the rest of the series and prequels too!
