This is one of the best YA fantasy books I've ever read. It has so much depth and constantly goes in unexpected directions. The writing is efficient and powerful, but still accessible. I also loved how morally complex all the characters are. I would highly recommend his for anyone who likes the idea of YA fantasy, but is tired of reading the similar stories and worlds over and over again.
I was not prepared for the emotional attachment I had to this book!
I normally love enemies to lovers so I was surprised I didn't care for this. The humor didn't work for me(there were a couple homophobic jokes that were not addressed and made me a bit uncomfortable), I wasn't attached to any of the characters, and I had trouble suspending my disbelief with some of the situations in this book. I think this may have needed more life stuff outside of the romance to connect me to the characters and keep things interesting. There were a couple of cute scenes, but I was either bored or angry for most of the book. I also think adding Ethan's perspective could have made me like him more. Christina Lauren's writing is always easy to read so I finished this quickly despite not enjoying it much, which is the only reason this wasn't a one star.
