Good, but not great. Too many plot points and it dragged a bit in the middle.
More like 3.5 stars. Not bad for the first in a series. I thought the details were short on some things (I couldn't keep the Golden Girls apart. Naming one of them Rose helped a little) and the lack of details in Sarah's back story made her a little one-dimensional. The details that are given are sort of tossed out there with little or no explanation. On the fip side, there's a lot of (largely) unneeded dialogue in the middle that I found myself flipping past. Overall, not a fantastic book, but enjoyable enough that I look forward to the next book.
I liked the premise but it was too much internal dialogue and the love interest angle was entirely too overdone.
Good story, the plot was well done and kept me guessing. Kathleen seems to have a lot of desserts on hand at all times and it's pretty much the only thing she eats. Weird.
Good first in a series. I enjoyed the setting and the characters. The plot lagged a bit in the middle, but it was worth it to stick with it. I have to say, it's a magical world that Minnie lives in where cellphones have dial tones. Also, if you're going to name your main character Minnie, I'm going to spend the book picturing her as Minnie Mouse.
Started this a week or so ago and it didn't hold my interest. Came back to it tonight and got as far as chapter 3 and nope. Not for me. Uninteresting, stereotypical characters and the setting didn't impress.
Not bad for a first in a series. The location was charming and I liked the colorful characters and the vintage kitchen is a cute idea. The plot was a little Jessica Fletcher-y. I more or less figured it out early on in the book. There was a little too much internal dialogue going on (the endless mooning over her ex left me flipping through pages an pages) and the foreshadowing could've been more subtle to the same effect.
There was one thing that irritated me: Baking SODA does NOT fizz in water. Ever. Baking POWDER does. If you mix up the two, you will have major baking problems.
