Enjoyed up until the final few chapters where it all went a bit wrong. The twist was good though.
Despite loving book 1, Ace of Shades, I had to admit defeat and DNF King of Fools. I struggled through to 30% but was not enjoying it, a bit disappointed in the slow pacing. I may try to read it again in the future, but for now it's a DNF for me.
3.5
Slow pacing for the first half of the book, had it not been a buddy read there is a good chance I wouldn't have finished it. Pace did pick up, and the final 1/4 of the book was really fun and action packed, will definitely keep an eye out for the sequel.

Oh. Fuck.
Before he can move, the girl shoves him back and darts her head to look through the holes in the door, then dips back to shelter.
“Four Obsidian braves, six Grays, three Browns. Six EFC-37 rifles, two GR-19 pistols, two Eaglefor PR-117s, a Vulcan 8k pulseFist. Couldn’t make out the rest.”
I stare at her. “So, no dolls for you, huh?”

This is absolutely definitely a super sweet read. I really enjoyed the narrative, with the author jumping in every now and again, and the setting was perfect. I live in the south of Scotland and it made me want to jump in the car and go visit the Highlands! Zoe was a fantastic main character, I loved her relationship with Hari and the children from The Hoose, the mystery was also a clever part of the story. The travelling bookshop was a really fun idea, and I may have to keep an eye out for Nina's story sometime too. Really enjoyed this light contemporary.
I hadn't realised that this one was Will Trent #9, I read and loved the first 7 but hadn't got around to reading #8 before I got into this one, but my fault.
I enjoyed the book overall, but it felt a bit like an information dump several times and I found myself getting mighty confused.
Aside from that, it was fast paced, lots of returning characters, especially Will and Sara (The Grant County series). Was also really good to see Faith again too. Eagerly awaiting #10.
