What a whirlwind.
I loved the connection to the Grimm fairy tales that have piqued my interest since junior high. The first half of this book was sweet, then it takes an unexpected turn. Worth hanging in to the end.

I loved the fact that a young girl is her nation's leading scientist! AND that she wasn't an anomaly. Young, gifted, women, leading and shaping their communities- what every book should be about!

Will be reading again.

I read this immediately after finishing There There by Tommy Orange. The parallels between the two were fascinating, though Ancestor Approved was much more uplifting.

This is a great story to celebrate the culture and community of Native American tribes. It felt similar to Reynold's Look Both Ways. I loved how all of the stories were separate, yet intertwined.

Highly recommend!

Great recipes! Though, there should be a warning to always cook your beans completely. Our exploration of beans resulted in one very bad weekend of food poisoning.
