Thank you to the author for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Eric LaRocca has once again written a novella to "bug" all my friends with...pun intended. Much like in "Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke", this book makes you wonder - where is this going? And when you get there, everything clicks into place in the most horrifying way.

The writing in this is quick-paced, blink and you might miss it. There is a level of understanding of the dystopian world that's been built out without ever directly explaining itself, which is genuinely a level of writing expertise I praise highly. The things that occur in this book are jarring, causing one to feel tense during the entire experience. And once you get to the ending, there is a moment of feeling pleased but also shocked at everything that's occurred.

Much like Eric's other works, I would absolutely recommend reading the content and trigger warnings that other reviewers have provided.

this book would be better if Quentin died.

Thank you to Netgalley as well as Flatiron Books for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Elektra, until about the halfway mark. Things started to feel a bit dragged on, and I remain somewhat confused by the title character being Elektra. She plays a small role in the majority of the book, until about the halfway mark onwards. Instead, her mother plays a larger role. And the third oracle perspective felt unnecessary at best.

This was, by no means, an unenjoyable book. It was simply a historical book that leaned too heavily on political setup than anything else. Ariadne pulled me in emotionally, whereas Elektra made me feel indifferent to its characters. I still enjoyed learning about these characters and their stories, and the turn of events was interesting, but not enough to make this a five-star review for me.

This book wasn't bad, but it also wasn't the humorous horror I was looking forward to reading. I'm not sure if this is the fault of my own expectation or the way this seems to be marketed. Most of the humor here is more in the irony, rather than anything that would make you laugh out loud. Our main characters are your standard "I'm not like other moms, I'm a cool mom" suburban mothers, each clinging to who they were prior to suburbia heavily. Some of the plots feels jagged and detached, but it all comes together in the end, though, of course, the power of friendship.

This is definitely in the category of a beach read horror for me, a very quick read without heavy emotional baggage attached to it.
