Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story is incredibly fast-paced, and honestly? I enjoyed that. The storyline is made clearer by reading the snippets of the Fay Hunters guide that’s included. I will say, the ending was a little bit confusing to me, but that could just be me. The story could have benefited from a little bit more detailing, but for a quick one-shot graphic novel, this was really solid.

This story genuinely took me by surprise with its fast pacing and dark story. I expected this to be a standard contemporary tale about grief and how we process it differently. However, I got a thriller, and I could not be more pleased. This book is dark, and bloody, and still raw in an emotional way. Kamal did a fantastic job of addressing several different issues, without ever making the plot lull.
Overall, this book took me by surprise. My only criticisms was that because it was so fast paced, there was some overall plot parts that got confusing. It was hard to always know what was going on and when, especially with the illustrative paranormal happening. I enjoyed it greatly and appreciate that things weren’t wrapped up with a shiny “everyone learned a lesson and is a better person now” bow.

Kirsten Ciccarelli has crafted a beautifully dark world within Edgewood. This story clearly pulls from the common folklore of fae but has its own twists and lore within it. I can greatly appreciate the skill it takes to do this. Emeline is driven by her own desires, but also the need to understand herself. This inherent conflict created a plot that drove the action in the story in a way I did not expect.
Despite my qualms with the disconnect of the romance and the age of the characters, this book was incredibly enjoyable. The pacing was well done, and the world-building was amazing. You could sense the danger everyone was in as the story progressed. This is my first book from Ciccarelli, and I am looking forward to reading more from her.
