Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a copy of this book, but unfortunately: DNF’ing at 25%. Rarely does it take me three days to get through 100 pages of a book. Unfortunately, this book falls into that rare category. Nothing about this felt interesting to me, and once I got a gist of what was going on- I genuinely no longer even cared. The writing feels long winded and the plot is too all over the place for me to even try to enjoy it.

I really really really wanted to like this book. However, I am DNF'ing at 41%. I'm still giving it 3 stars though, because the world is really interesting and the plot seems like it will be great. The issue is that the pacing is too slow for me, and I can't retain interest in the book to continue reading it. It was making me start to resent the book. A negative here is that there are too many characters at hand, so I was also really struggling to understand what was going on. This is probably a fantastic pirate MG, but, for those reasons I had to DNF.

dnf'd @ 80%-ish because I just...wasn't enjoying the sports aspect and the tropes and don't...want to finish this at all. this didn't feel much like the book that was described.

I’m...bored. I’m not invested and the writing style of the dialogue is making it worse.

I have tried really hard to give this book a good go of it, but I just can’t. I don’t care about who killed the rich man, and I don’t care about why. On top of it, the way Molly’s blatant neurodivergency is being handled is frustrating to me, and everyone except one character seems to mishandle and manipulate her for it. I already find mental health misuse in thrillers the easy way out, but this is frustrating to another level. Additionally, everything is convenient and easily figured out. This would be fine for a beach read if our main character wasn’t so badly treated and badly written.
