Schulman often talks about not receiving any formal training in novel writing, just writing what she knows and feels. Her raw, experimental style is perfectly suited to what she is writing about. There is a real immediacy to the writing and the characters jump off the page. I wouldn’t say this book is perfect, but it is brilliant.

A great noir with a spooky Batman twist and amazing artwork

A very weird book in that seemingly nothing that happened actually mattered. It was almost like a meditation. I love Banks’ writing style. He makes reading lots of sci-fi jargon feel effortless.

So good, but it seems to be about a lot but I’m just not sure what it is

Really disappointing. I’ve been enjoying these so far despite some pitfalls, but this one really felt weak and pointless. The art was all over the place (including one seemingly important character who went from being a Black woman with dreads to a tan, blue-eyed woman with straight brown hair, back to being a Black woman with curly brown hair between issues). Even though there is one more in this series, it seems like the main characters aren’t even going to be in the next one? But this doesn’t feel like a satisfying end at all to their story?
