This book is a masterpiece of show-don't-tell. At no point is the narrative interrupted by the opinions of the author or an objective description of the events. Everything is filtered through the unique perspective of the narrator, Clay, revealing character in a way I have never experienced before. Although the novel can be very uncomfortable to read at points, and it can sometimes feel slightly tedious given the repetitive and am athletic nature of Clay's responses to events, this only further offers insight into psyche of the protagonist. In fact the whole novel is engrossing.

I really really loved this book. It was the perfect mix of a great imaginative idea, or at least an sci-fi concept with an imaginative new spin on it, real science concepts explored in an interesting way, and examinations of how these ideas might impact society. Add to that some great writing, characters and plots and you have an amazing book.

I can't wait to read more about these characters and settings.

Everything in this was so cool. The mixture of the quirky humour and sci-fi was awesome. The air ship, the AI that may or may not be human, the trolls and elves, everything. The ending was amazing sequel bait. Sorry I'm not making much sense but there was so much I liked I'm having trouble sorting it allout in my head.

Anyway, I recommend it!

I really loved this book. It was actually better than I expected. It surprised me how closely the Daniel Craig film stuck to the book. I love how Craig's Bond picked up on his characterisation as not wanting to get emotionally involved, but then falling in love and getting compromised by falling in love, and then that turning into a cold emotionless killer. Craig really carries off the mix of emotionlessness with a slight sheen of scary anger.

It could have done without someof the casual racism and sexism though.

I really liked it! This is continuing my trend of liking non-Discworld Terry Pratchett books more than Discworld ones. The layers and strands of the story were all deftly woven, and the humour was all nice and subtle. Um... it was good!

The first chapter of this book took a while to get in to. I really couldn't see how this would turn out to be a First Doctor story. Then I really got in to it and read the whole book in two days.

I was surprised at how well the first doctor fit into this so well. The way he slowly gained their trust, rather than going straight from being a prisoner to being their savior, was very well done.

I loved how Ben and Polly fit in so well too. I loves getting to read from their perspectives, especially in the chose your own adventure style section.

The best bit was the way it took a very adult idea like starship troopers, married it with doctor who (various different lumbering monsters, some times wimeyness, etc), married that with Agetha Christie, and had it all make sense as a cohesive and brilliant story.
