After being disappointed by another “meeting your celebrity crush” book, this was just what I needed. Brilliant. Would have been perfect if not for a slightly unbelievable and frustrating miscommunication near the end.

I think my favourite Haley Cass so far! Normally I don’t cry for Cass’s main novels, and only start bawling when I read their companion novellas. This time, the novel itself made me cry! Such a slow burn and so worth it! The character development and world building were exquisite! Getting to know these characters so well was wonderful.

I was so hyped for this book after reading A Family Affair. Unfortunately, I was totally disappointed by it. The characters and plot feel totally hollow. There is absolutely no character development. The MCs never find out anything about each other, nor do we find out anything about them, except a couple of times they mention they like reading books? But that never seems important to each. Their feelings about each other never change from the first moment they meet, other than at some point they decide to say they love each other.

They sleep with each other, then there’s a whole load of dumb band drama that keeps them apart, then they get together again without anything between them having changed, and then it ends. At the start, Cleo idol worships Lana, and Lana thinks Cleo is charismatic, sings well, and reminds her of her younger self. By the final sex scene, Cleo is thinking “wow I’m having sex with my idol, Lana fucking Lynch!” And Lana is thinking “Cleo is a very charismatic rock star, and she kind of reminds me of me when I was younger, and also a bit of my dead wife. Also she’s way too young for me.”

How exactly is this the basis for any healthy relationship, let along an HEA that will supposedly last for ever??? By far my least favourite Harper Bliss book.

Great book, but lots a quarter of a star for a bit too much “I love her but she could never love me” from the two of them.

Update 3 Feb 2025: I can’t imagine a better “falling for the other woman” book than this. It is perfect.  I’ve read two other books using this trope and they are great, but they can’t touch this one.

Despite being so short, I really fell in love with the characters and felt I knew them, and really cared about them.

Not the best written romance I’ve read, but I’ve already read a later entry in this series and know the author gets a lot better.
