Circe was such a powerful read. Rarely are mythology stories told through a woman's pov. Since reading the Percy Jackson series, I haven't found another story about greek mythology that I could escape into. In this case I admired the descriptions and setting more than the characters, but nonetheless I'm glad that I FINALLY read this book.

This is the best book that I will ever read about Italy. It's honest, clever, and raw. Mayes creates a flow almost like a book of poetry. Surprisingly I enjoyed the numerous recipes throughout the book. They really belong in the story and are an extra character. While this is nothing like the movie adaptation, I'd recommend reading and watching them both. Each are beautiful journeys that are on the same wave length.
