Clay is an author who has been stuck since his parents passed the year before, running their bookstore and not writing or dating. When Syrus walks into his bookstore that all changes. Syrus is introverted and tends to avoid people, but when he gets the opportunity to narrate his favorite author's (and big crush's) book, he realizes that he might have some exceptions to his usual rules.
I loved this novella. Clay is such a sweetheart and I love how he genuinely loves everything about Syrus and doesn't think he's "strange" or "odd". Clay loves how real and honest he is and never thinks of Syrus as different, just better. It's not explicitly stated, but Syrus has some neurodivergent traits that make it harder for him to pick up those social cues. He'd rather be by himself and stick to his rules and routines, but he can't help but be drawn to Clay. Syrus loves how Clay can put into words the feelings he has trouble expressing.
The only thing that would make this better is if it was a full length novel. There was some mention at the end of starting a spin off series with these characters and Clay's bookstore. They are slightly adjacent to the For Him couples. Syrus's cousin is Van's brother's fiancé who actually owns the coffee shop they are always at. There are bunch of fun coincidences like that. Another sweet couple in the For Him series, and I hope we get to see them again.

Marius is still trying to figure out his life years after leaving his long term boyfriend (sweet baby angel Edwin) and other life changes. By chance he is rescued my Leo, who is also trying to rediscover himself. This unlucky duo helps each other find a new perspective on life and love.
While I didn't love Marcus's choices, I did enjoy him as the imperfect character he is. I can't hate on him too much because he hates on himself enough. He's very self-aware of his shortcomings and does try to fix things when he goes too far. Leo is perfect for him, giving him a dose of reality and unexpectedly inspiring him. Leo offers Marius the opportunity to explore himself and grieve his loss without any expectations, joining Leo on his journey of self-discovery.

Easton and Kade are two friends on the same rec rugby team in Philly. After they find out they're dating the same guy and start to bond, they finally feel ready to explore their long held-back feelings for one another.
Kade and Easton have a long off-page friendship so to the reader the feelings feel a bit insta-lovey, but for them it's been a thing for a while. They easily fall into their connection with one another - once they've convinced themselves to go for it. It was a shorter novella so not much for me to say other than they were a cute couple!
I would say that this is more of an introduction into the series, future characters, and dynamics than anything. These are both new to me authors, and my only real complaint is that it was pretty obvious two different people wrote the chapters. And I won't lie, I did like one style more than the other. The series gives off very low angst, fun vibes, and I like that they have older MCs and some rugby rep.
