This book follows a group of women lawyers working at a firm in Texas. After their companies CEO dies, they realize the person next in line to take that position is a man in which they all have mixed feelings about.
This book covers sexism in the workplace and sexual harassment against women extensively and it was anything but subtle. They throw the themes of feminism and women sticking together in your face. Which, to be clear, I am ALL for those themes, I'd just like them to be conveyed in a more nuanced way.
I liked the story however I felt like it dragged on far too long. The ending was satisfying but the journey was a but of a snooze.

Bambi finds himself in quite the situation. After being kicked out of his girlfriends house for cheating he is forced to move in with his late uncles wife, misteress and a baby. The problem, both women claim the baby is theirs.
I'm not sure how Oyinkan Btaithwaite conveys such a complex story is only 100 pages. She is fantastic at character and plot development and keeps this moving at a rapid pace. Although the book is wrapped up in that short time period I am always wanting more.
This was a quick, mysterious and disturbing read. Btaithwaite writes in a realistic and humourous way but you still feel genuine terror at times.

I'm not sure how to feel about this one. It was well written and sprinkled with research, tips to maintaining friendship and a memoir of two friends who have been friends for 10 years. However, it was pretty boring. I wasn't engaged and couldn't relate that much to their friendship. I have a couple friendships I would categorize as "Big" and I thought this book was going to do a better job with tips on maintaining that. But coming to find out that they've only been friends for 10 years kind of seems phony to me. I'm not sure how these people can claim expertise on a category they've struggled on and off with for only 10 years.
Lifelong friendship takes a lot of work and honest communication. Most people don't have the money or resources of the individuals in this book to implement some of the strategies they used (trips and therapy!).
I think friendship is extremely personalized and each one needs it's own type of care. This book just wasn't it for me.

There is nothing wrong with this book or its content. It's very basic, black and white, how to succeed tips or "principles." However, I don't really think it needs a whole book. I felt like there were almost too many examples in each chapter and because the book is SO old a lot of the examples are outdated. Not a bad read, but nothing I would really recommend either. Just bland.

Talk about character development! This book was a masterclass on how to write characters and flesh out strong character backgrounds. Now this book was nothing like I expected. I thought I was getting a closed room horror, however this is really a literary novel that is mostly social commentary with a bit of horror thrown in. A lot of reviews stated this this was overly gore heavy however I didn't find it that way at all. It is made very clear that the things contestants are experiencing are fake so all the gore was fake.
I'm not a huge literary fan however I did enjoy this and I can see this becoming a classic in the future.
Bonus points for the awesome sprayed edges and cover design!

5 months and only 2 chapters later I'm calling it quits on this. How is 2 chapters over 100 pages?!?!? Maybe I'm just not the dark academia kind of gal but like nothing at all happened in 100 pages. Nothing! I decided to read a couple spoiler reviews of this book to see if the plot/payoff would be worth it. Umm, definitely not. Sad I let this sit for so long unread but I'm ready to move on to better books.

I went into the novel with little/no expectation - I mean, I picked it up for $1 at the Dollar Tree.
I was pleasently delighted by this read. I'm not saying the book is without flaws, it has some (mainly, I'd say the character development of anyone outside of Kelly). I couldn't help but root for Kelly and Ethan throughout the book. This book brought up plenty of ethical and societal questions that we may need to start asking ourselves for the future. I also loved the representation of women in STEM!
Overall, it was a charming and quick read that I think people should give a chance.

Toxic friendship, deceit, obsession, partner swapping, this book has it all. Although at times I found it predictable it was still a fun read.

Maybe I just didn't get this? There were a few poems I really enjoyed but there were a lot I didn't understand. I think this may benefit from a second read because I do love the ideal behind this.
