With a setting and setup that felt like a combination of Brandon Sanderson's Skyward and Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, Higuera's The Last Cuentista had a well-painted protagonist with touchingly enduring family ties in spite of fantastical stressors.

After hearing this mentioned in Jane Austen books and similar novels, I expected Radcliffe's work to be amazingly captivating, but most of the characters and plot fell flat for me. There were moments I enjoyed, but personally I felt that the pacing seemed to drag.

I enjoyed the first book in the series the most, but this was a decent addition.

This was a cute retelling of Sense & Sensibility with an authentic portrayal of the complications of adult sister relationships.

I didn't realize this was part of a series when I picked it up. That being said, I felt like many of the characters didn't experience much of an arc in this book.

While this was by no means a perfect story, it was intriguing to read a narrative layered like this, with a fake Church historian compiling ancestral heritage.
