This book drew me in from its title and cover and premise to be a light read for a good time. I'll be honest, I did inhale this book in a couple hours, but it definitely got deeper than I expected. Both the main character and the love interest have complicated relationships with parents that added a nice layer to the story beyond just the romance. Some of the tropes were a little too emphasized for my personal taste, but overall I enjoyed the read.

I always appreciate a romance that doesn't have anything in it that makes me uncomfortable to read. The Romeo & Juliet retelling was a little basic, but it worked for a light read, and the family history element with the Vietnamese immigration background was fascinating. The descriptions of food were especially great. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with this book.

This was a nice afternoon read that was well paced so I was engaged throughout. The relationship was predictable but I couldn't help hardcore rooting for the couple anyway!

George Eliot really is a master of dialect. Silas's story is heartwarming, but honestly the other characters were not as entrancing as, say, the background cast of The Mill on the Floss.
