My kids loved this book, they thought it was hilarious. I could have done without the fart references, which made up the whole book. It was a short read, I read it in its entirely before they went to bed. My favorite part of the book was the last chapter on how to deal with being a bully. It had some really good advise in it.
My daughter got given this doll by her aunt, and was excited for us to read the book. The story isn't very action oriented however it is loaded with opportunities to talk about other cultures and time periods. For no other reason I love this book. Even my son was interested in the time period. We all enjoyed the last chapter about the history of the period. This was the first American Girl book that I have read, but it will not be the last.
I am not sure why this book has such bad reviews. Ok, I have a son with Aspergers that is obsessed with the titanic and it was nice to read a fiction book rather than non fiction. The story was chilling at times, and I thought decently written. There were times that things seemed a little too convenient, and my son kept arguing with the authors choice of the last song played. Overall I enjoyed it and had fun reading it with my kids.
I have been working on reading all of the Kindle free books that I have acquired. Some are decent, and some are horrid, but it has been a while since I was really drawn in to the story. This story drew me in. The main character is yet another awkward teen who suddenly becomes acquainted with the paranormal, yet the premise for this story is unique. Mina is a descendent of the brothers Grimm and is cursed to play out the stories until she completes them or dies. In this story Mina completes three tales, meets up with the richest and cutest boy at school, and is stalked by a mysterious new boy (that I have my suspicions about). The writing is good, although not perfect, and the series has the potential to go on forever. However that would get old, so I am sure there will be more twists and turns in the books to come. I can't wait to read the second book.
