I love Emily Henry's books! This is one where at the beginning I thought that I wasn't going to enjoy it because of the miscommunication trope right at the beginning, but the way that the story unfolded it was obvious why that trope was used and I think that the resolution was one that made that trope work for me.
I find that all of Henry's characters feel so real and make me want to just climb into the stories and be friends with them because I relate to them so much. If you have enjoyed Henry's other romance titles I believe that you will enjoy this one as well. This book solidified that Henry is a favorite author for me.

I have always enjoyed learning more about polygamy. It is one of those things I find interesting in why people feel called to live that way. This book follows two separate timelines about two separate women who are both considered the 19th wife. I found the narrative to be compelling, but the pacing did pull me out of the story occasionally because I would be invested in one of the narratives more than the other.
I think that the story was well thought out and the characters were fleshed out I just enjoyed the past narrative more compelling than the present narrative.
If you found the show Big Love enjoyable then I think you could enjoy this story. If you enjoy Sister Wives this is nothing like that show. If you enjoyed the documentary Keep Sweet and Obey I also think you will enjoy this story.

DNFing at 18 % This story is so confusing to me. I feel like there are too many characters for the pace and length of this book. I am interested in where the plot that I am following may be going, but the narrative voice doesn’t feel very distinct for any of the characters throughout the part of the book that I pushed through. I am curious to read more of the SPFBO 9 nominees hate that this was a miss for me.

This book was just too cringy for me. All three of these men were taking advantage of a young woman after the death of her parents.

This is a story of Iris and Roman fighting for the same columnist position at a newspaper. Iris comes from a poor family because her brother has gone to fight in the current war and her mother has developed an alcohol addiction. Roman comes from a family that is wealthy because Roman's father was a self-made man.
These two's bickering was comical at the beginning, but as the story progresses and you find out how they are connected in another way, the characters begin to really make you feel the attraction.
I enjoyed reading this story it definitely kept my attention and when I would have to put it down it was always calling to me to pick it back up. I think that the fantasy elements of this book were so subtle that it feels almost magical realism, but the historical fiction elements are where my enjoyment wained a little because I went into this thinking it was going to be more actual historical fiction instead of a made-up war. I am interested in the way the story ended to pick up the next book in this series and see where our characters go from here.
I appreciate NetGalley and Wednesday Books for giving me a free E-ARC of this book and I cannot wait to read more from this author

I had such high hopes for this book and I think I have come to terms that maybe Bardugo's writing is just not for me.
I found the fact that our main character went from being a drug dealer to a Yale student a little far-fetched.
I found the lore of the secret societies and the works for Lethe interesting, but I felt like there were whole chapters that didn't make sense to the plot of the story other than to give more background. I went into this book with expectations of dark academia like If We Were Villians by M.L. Rio with magic and I was just let down personally. I did like it enough that I do plan to read the sequel to see how things wrap up,but this may be the last series I read from this author.

I know that I am late to the train on this one, but I didn't know just how much I needed this book in my life. I know that everyone talks about how it is like a warm hug in a book and they are not kidding.
I think my favorite part of this book is the way our main character works so hard to change her life for the better but still has to fight the temptation to go back to what she has known for so long.
If you are in the mood for a fantasy but don't want to read a high-stakes fantasy then pick this one up.
