I’ll preface this by saying by the end I quite enjoyed the book. However, I will say reading this as an American in 2024 I was
horrified by the various things Solitaire does, and struggled to see any of it as a harmless. I spent most of my time trying to remind myself that this is just a YA novel and wasn’t going to turn into some horror story of school violence.
I also didn’t really vibe with how everything was handled. I know it is influenced by Tori’s POV but I was very conflicted by how little people seemed to care about things, and how oblivious the adults seemed. Overall though, I think it’s a good book, and I appreciate the story that was told. I think it will be a book I think about and appreciate, but not one I would reread.

It’s still weird that they’re high schoolers, but I understand that high school is a good plot device. The story is pretty good, but the early flaws in the romantic relationships continue to make it hard for me to fully love them.

Again great story overall, however, the relationship between Atlas and Avery, and Leda and Watt decrease my rating. I don’t really like either of those relationships. Also every time I remember these are supposed to be high schoolers I can’t help but laugh. But overall a good book.
dark informative reflective slow-paced

The information is communicated well, but there is a lot of it. This is not the most objective and factual book out there, considering there is so little concrete information. At times it feels a bit speculative, but it also seems like that is difficult to avoid when talking about Eva Braun.

My rating would be higher if Avery and Atlas were different.
