Guardians of Dawn: Zhara

This was a fun read! I really enjoyed the crew of characters, the heist, and the fantasy elements surrounding the vampires. I do feel that comparing it to Six of Crows led to some high expectations that were unfortunately not met (which is why I don't love when books are compared to other popular ones). The vampires were the bulk of the fantasy element, so this could be a good one to pick up if newer to fantasy as there wasn't a magic system to have to learn. Overall, it was a good time and I will continue with the series, but I won't be comparing this to Six of Crows when recommending to others.

Loveable characters: Yes

I really enjoyed The Midnight Girls and am bummed that it is only a standalone because I want more of these characters! There was so much to love: the dynamics of the three witches, the rivalry (turned to lovers...), the historical Polish backdrop, and the magic. Personally, I felt this read a little on the younger YA side - everything from the rivalry and romance to the politics was a little on the surface side of things, so the reason it isn't a 5 star rating for me is that I wish those things had a bit more depth to them.

Sadly, I don’t think Olivie Blake’s writing is for me. I couldn’t get into the story and I didn’t have an interest in the characters.

Well, now I need to look into more fantasy mysteries! This was so much fun and had me hooked from the start. Voyage of the Damned was definitely one of those books where I did not want to put it down. I loved the characters (especially Grasshopper!); the fantasy elements were very exciting; and Frances White held no punches when it came to the murder mystery. While it was marketed as adult, I felt like it read more like an older YA story, so this might be one that fits better in New Adult. All in all, I really enjoyed this one and I am so excited to see what comes next from Frances White!

Let's be honest, this is definitely not my typical read and not one I imagined I would pick up... that is until I read Girls Weekend by CMN and I enjoyed the world and characters she created! I liked the continued world building in this and the characters. It is very *spicy* and took some getting used to reading, but it did not deter me from enjoying the overall book. This is probably not a book I would openly recommend to people, but if it catches your interest at all, I'd say give it a try. I am planning on continuing with CMN's books, just to see what comes next.

What a cute book! This would be a perfect rainy day read, just make sure you have plenty of yummy snacks on hand because the food descriptions in this will leave you hungry! I really enjoyed the format of multiple short stories with a similar plot in each of an individual seeking the help of the Kamogawa Food Detectives to find a lost receipt they want to have again (like the storytelling of Before The Coffee Gets Cold and What You Are Looking For Is In The Library). Each story in the book is roughly 30 pages long so this reads real fast!
