While reading this book, I kept thinking the best word to describe the writing of it was "sterile." I'm sure that was at least partly on purpose, since the biologist herself is a very stoic, guarded character, but I feel it was a detriment to my enjoyment. It was pretty much impossible to be immersed in what should have been an interesting setting because I had no emotional attachment at all. I am not interested in continuing the series, despite the ending leaving more questions than answers.
