While the information and insight into the AIDS crisis in this book is invaluable, the way it integrated real-life political figures into it as "characters" rubbed me the wrong way and felt like fanfiction. I would have rather read a non-fiction account of these figures and the time period, which I'll be looking into. Nonetheless, while this wasn't my taste, it will be important and educational for some readers who may not be familiar with the impact this time had on Black and LGBTQIA+ history.
