I’m a bit torn over this book. I really liked it, but I’m confused by what happened.
The world building is fairly weak. I learned more about the world in the blurb here than the book. That said, I did like the world. The steampunk feel was awesome.
But things move so slow,y in this book. Then they change at the drop of a hat. And so much is not told. It’s hidden and books like that frustrate me. I like to know what’s going on.
Still, I did like this book, confusing as it is. I like Ophelia, particularly at the end of the book. I would’ve liked to have seen more romance with Thorn. I think it’s heading there, but again, so slowly.
I’m intrigued to read the rest of the series and will be continuing.

I should’ve loved this book. Asian themed books are my jam, I love them, but the sci-fi elements, the constructs, the weird animals, the islands, and the memory loss just wasn’t for me.
I was hoping it would be a small element, but it wasn’t, and it just wasn’t for me.

All the blurbs on this book say great world building, but I found it severely lacking.
I didn’t understand how Red and Neve came to be the first and second daughters.
I didn’t understand the woods or why they were bad.
I didn’t understand the sacrifice bit.
I didn’t understand so much of this book and therefore didn’t care about it.
